Ho Chi Minh City Open University has once again affirmed its role and efforts in sustainable development by continuing to be featured in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2025. The university maintained its position in the 1,001-1,500 band, contributing to a total of 16 Vietnamese universities honored, marking the highest number to date.
On June 18, 2025, Times Higher Education announced the University Impact Ranking 2025, which evaluates universities based on their implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These criteria include gender equality, climate action, good health and well-being, quality education, partnerships for the goals, reduced inequalities, and more.
Ho Chi Minh City Open University’s consistent presence in a prestigious international ranking like the THE Impact Rankings demonstrates the university’s concrete commitments and actions in integrating sustainable development goals into its teaching, research, and community service activities. This is a testament to the unceasing efforts of Ho Chi Minh City Open University’s staff, lecturers, and learners in creating positive impacts on society.
The University Impact Ranking 2025 attracted approximately 2,500 universities from over 130 countries and territories. THE calculates scores based on SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) being mandatory (accounting for 22%), then adds the three highest-scoring SDGs from the remaining 16 (each accounting for 26%). Scores for each SDG are evaluated based on research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.
